The Music

A friend called me up late Saturday night to tell me to tune into OETA and watch a concert with Joe Bonamassa.  My first thought was who the heck is Joe Bonamassa?  All he told me was he was a guitarist he had seen perform at the Brady Theater and a friend of his had him at Cain's.  I thought, what the heck, I'll watch, he's probably pretty good.

As Bonamassa began to play, my jaw literally dropped.  This guy blew me away!  He was utterly fantastic.  And then lo and behold the next day, I saw an advertisement that he has an upcoming performance scheduled for April 29th, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the Civic Center.  Tickets are on sale now.  If you enjoy spectacular music, buy a ticket and make the short drive over to the City to see him.  I don't believe you will be disappointed.

Joe Bonamassa is a 35-year old American blues rock guitarist and singer whose reputation is rapidly making him known as one of the world's greatest guitar players.  Bonamassa was born and raised in New Hartford, New York where his parents owned a guitar shop.  Joe's dad gave him his first guitar when he was four years old.  By the time he was seven years old he was playing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix.  When he was 12 years old, he opened for B. B. King.  Since his musical career began, Bonamassa has played with musical giants such as:  Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker, Gregg Allman, Steve Winwood, Paul Jones, Ted Nugent, Warren Haynes, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks and Jack Bruce.

Bonamassa's style incorporates rock, blues rock, Delta Blues, electric blues, jazz, country and prog rock.  So far he has put out twelve solo albums.  On May 4, 2009 Bonamassa performed for a sold-out show at the Royal Albert Hall in London.  Later that year, Bonamassa was awarded the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the U.K.’s prestigious Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards as well as Best Blues Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards for the third consecutive year.  Bonamassa travels the world over and plays an average of 200 shows a year.

Check him out.
